This essay examines the structural forces driving this pragmatic turn, the empirical evidence that separates genuine progress from residual hype, and the strategic implications for enterprises that must now answer a harder question — not “what can AI do?” but “what is AI actually doing for us, and at what cost?” Drawing on industry analyses from TechCrunch[2], Deloitte[3], IBM[4], and Forrester[5], we argue that pragmatism is not a retreat from ambition — it is the maturation of a field finally reckoning with the real complexity of deployment.
The Party Was Real — and So Is the Hangover #
Every technological revolution has its euphoric phase. The internet had 1999; blockchain had 2017; generative AI had 2023–2025. These are not episodes of collective delusion — the underlying technology is real, the capabilities are genuine, and the long-term implications are profound.
